Shining Tears X Wind - Episode 1 「シャイニング・ティアーズ・クロス・ウィンド：エピソード１」

Today X The Other World 「現代×異世界」

After playing Shining Wind recently, I started looking up more information about it and found out about Shining Tears X Wind, the anime based on the PS2 games Shining Tears & Shining Wind. I haven’t played Shining Tears yet, I am in the process of buying it, though I have played Shining Wind. From what I have seen so for this seems to be a pretty decent anime, 13 episodes long in all.

Episode 1 starts out with some mysterious disappearances going on around Tatsumi Town and St. Ruminus Academy, with students just vanishing in mid air apparently. Some of the characters are introduced, Kiriya, Seena, Souma, and Kureha, all of which are characters from Shining Wind. They talk of ways to solve the current problem with people vanishing, yet they are in doubt of what is going on. Later on, Mao (A catgirl from Shining Tears) is introduced, as she opens a gate to the real world from the dream continent End Earth in seek of a person named “Zero”. Yet, as she opens the gate, a beastman manages to get through as well, and begins wandering free in the city.

The beastman makes it to the school where Souma and Kureha are, and they end up fighting it with the help of Mao. Mao explains her intentions after the battle, yet before they get any real explanation, the Mirror of Dimension is broken by the beastman, which in effect sends everyone back to the dream continent of End Earth. Souma and Kureha run into Zero in an alternate dimension, he mentions entrusting Souma with world and leaves. They end up being put on End Earth, and promptly being attack by beastman. Souma attempts to hold off the beastman so Kureha can escape, yet she becomes injured by the beastmen. Souma is put into yet another position as he attacked by one of the head beastman and also stabed to death, yet Kureha jumps in front of the blade and sacrifices herself.

But…we are in End Earth now, so something a tad different happens. The Spirit Sword Snow Moon Flower 「霊剣雪月華」 made of Kureha’s heart is able to be drawn out of her body, which somehow makes Kureha not dead now. Once Souma is able to wield the sword, the rest of the beastman are killed with no difficulty, and that ends the episode.
